Single strand narrative/Multi-strand narrative
Introduction
Single camera is when you one camera to produce a video and the shots are done in a careful and efficient order. There are advantages and disadvantages of using single camera. Advantages: It’s cheaper than using multiple cameras because you will only need one camera, which means you won’t need to buy a lot of equipment.
Also when you are only using one camera you have more control over what’s going. This is important because you need to have control over the production and sure the scenes and shots are in the right order. Another advantage of using single camera is that it’s easy get from one place, which means that you can use more location simultaneously.
Also the quality of the video will be the same because you will be using the same camera. There are disadvantages of single camera production is that you can only get one angle at a time because you are only using one camera so this will be more time consuming because it will take a lot of time if you want different types of angle for your video.
Another disadvantage would be that since you’re only using one camera it will time to edit the footage because a lot of the film will be on one camera examples of single camera TV shows which fall into different categories which are comedy (Frasier), sci-fi (The Big Bang Theory), crime (CSI), teen (Hollyoaks), thriller (The X Files), and period drama (Downton Abbey).
Todorov's Theory (Narrative)
Tzevetan Todorov is a philosopher who is from Bulgaria. In the year 1969 Todorov thought and produced a theory about films. He believed that this theory was applied to any and all films and that they all followed a same narrative pattern.
The pattern was that they all go through different stages, which is called equilibrium, disequilibrium, acknowledgement and then solving, and then equilibrium.
The number of stages that a narrative can progress through is five; which are:
1. A state of equilibrium. (This is when everything is normal and, as it should be.)
2. A disruption of that order by an event. (This is when an event occurs which creates a problem.)
3. A recognition that the disorder has occurred. (This is when it’s realised that a problem has occurred.)
4. An attempt to repair the damage of the disruption. (This is when they try to resolve the problem.)
5. A return or restoration of a new equilibrium. (This is when everything’s back to normal after the problem has been resolved.)
Also it could be two stories of two different people, which intervene or come together. An example of this would be TV soaps like Eastenders because it has more than one story also Coronation Street because it ends one story and begins another without confusing the audience.
Linear/Non-linear
Linear is when a film or show is in a chronological order. This means everything is in order and it has a beginning, middle and an end in that order. Non-linear when a film or a show is not in order and switches from one place to another and could have flashbacks.
For example in movies if someone is sitting at home watching TV the next will be him sitting in a totally different place doing something else. Examples of non-linear movies would be Sin City and Kill Bill.
(Frasier)
The lighting for that has been used in this program is natural lighting because most of time is spent indoors in the house and when they outside they make the image brighter to make it easier to see. The sound that is used in this program is mostly music in the background, for example is everything is calm then the music will be at normal speed but if something existing is happening then the music will speed up.
This sets the mood and also creates tension. The camera angles that are used in this program there are a wide range of shots, which include close up shots when it’s only focusing on one person. Also there are medium shots when it shows them having dinner as a family and there are some long shots when they show the house.
The lighting for this program is all-natural which means that there are no special effects or additional lighting used. The sound that is used in this program is both dietetic and non-dietetic.
This is because there are people laughing in the background as well as people talking and other natural sounds such the door closing. A wide range of camera shots is used in this program. For example when it’s focusing on person it’s a close up and medium shots used there is a group of people.

Today we carried on with the editing and updated our blogs.
In the lesson we made a list of what things we need to do for in order to make our one-minute video. The list was:
Identify your audience -
Determine what you’re trying to tell-
Story needs to interesting and creative
Need to have a clear objective-
come up with a proposal/treatment-
Come up with a storyboard include start, middle, end (equilibrium)-
Mood/genera such a comedy, horror

Risk assessment/ location
We as a group will need to carry out a risk assessment because we need to make sure that that the location we are going to use to for our 1 minute video. We need to make sure that the location we use is safe. Also we will need to look at the location that we are going to use because it could problems such lose wires which could be dangerous because someone could trip over them and hurt themselves.
For our video we are going to use one of the crew members house. The risk factors could be the rain comes and this may cause one of the crew members to slip and hurt themselves. Also there is a computer there with lose wires. This is a risk factor because someone could fall over and hurt themselves and also its dangerous with the electrical equipment.
Equipment list/Budgeting:
Camera- £300
Tripod- £150
MacBook for editing- £800
Editing software- £100
Props- £50
Lighting equipment- £20
Total budget- £1420
Mood/ Genre
First of all, the genre of our short film will be comedy and horror. This is because we have found that a majority of the people that we asked to fill our questionnaire preferred a movie that was comedic and scary. This told us that we could make a successful film by choosing a comedy genre or a horror genre, but we decided that we will combine the two genres to allow for a larger audience to project our film at. The mood of our film will be funny as well as being scary and thrilling. We decided that this would be a good mood to show in the film because it makes people nervous and anxious when watching the parts at which there is some form of horror, and then also gives them relief and joy them when it comes to the more comedic phase of the film. The way that we decided on the mood of our film is our researching the moods that are shown by other, already existing, movies and then integrating that information into our project.
Story layout:
The start of the film will consist of a man in his early 20's who is throwing a night Halloween party and his having fun enjoying his time with his friends.
POINT OF EQUILIBRIUM
After he has the party all the guests leave and then he goes to relax while watching a scary movie in his home. While watching the scary movie he receives a phone call and is terrified because he gets a threat over the phone by a voice which he doesn't recognise.
The middle section of the story is when the man has just finished receiving the threat on the phone. He then notices that there is someone knocking on the door, but he can't actually see anyone there. So being cautious he walks towards the door slowly and as he gets closer he gets more scared. He then grabs a rubber chicken that is lying on a nearby table, other than the cricket bat right next to it, and goes to open the door.
POINT OF DISRUPTION
When he opens the door he screams only to find that there is a small child in a costume asking for some candy. He then relaxes and gives the boy some candy.
The end of the story is when the man closes the door feeling more secure, and when he turns around he gets a fright by seeing his friend with a much unexpected look on his face. He then finds out that it was a prank and then he calms down and resumes with the relaxing, of watching a scary movie. RESTORATION OF EQUILIBRIUM.
Camera shots
In our 1 minute film production we will be using shots and angles like: close ups/extreme close up. These camera shots would be used in places like when the main character is going to open the door and just before he does a camera shot could be used to show how scared and anxious he is.
Camera angles such as; high and low angles would be used at the part when the character opens the door and sees a kid and the kid would be shown forma high angle to show that it is a smaller person who is inferior to the main character. In this case an over the shoulder shot could also be used to give a point of view feel to the scene.
How will the Actors convey the Feeling?
The actors HAIRS U and ZUNED will portray their emotions and convey their feelings by using facial expressions to show their emotions and how they are feeling and they will also exaggerate their feelings for the camera to show that they are actually more scared in the film then they actually are, This would mean that the audience would engage with the actors and they would emphasis with the actors. Feeling scared is an emotion which the actors would have to portray the best because horror is the genre of our short film.
